Awareness and Flow

The basic and most important principle underlying health is the balancing of our life force and maintenance and reliance on our body’s own natural healing power.”

Sensei Shizuto Masunaga, Zen Shiatsu

What is Zen Shiatsu Therapy?

Zen Shiatsu is a form of natural healing therapy developed in Japan by sensei Shizuto Masunaga, a psychology professor at Tokyo University, in the 1970s. It is rooted in traditional Chinese medicine theory, Shiatsu, Zen Buddhism and Psychology.  The name Shiatsu means “finger pressure”. This therapy works with the body’s intricate network of meridians (energy pathways) and points where energy flourishes to promote the free flow of Ki—the vital life force energy.

When Ki flows freely, it nourishes your physical, emotional, and mental well-being. However, when energy becomes blocked, in excess or deficient, it can lead to imbalance, discomfort or pain. Zen Shiatsu Therapy aims to treat the client as a whole by releasing excess energy and replenishing deficient energy. We restore balance and vitality throughout which in turn ignites your body’s innate ability to heal itself.

What to Expect in Treatment

During a Zen Shiatsu Therapy  Session with Diana Ojeda, you’ll experience a caring, empathetic and intuitive approach to healing. You will settle onto the massage table and be guided into a comfortable position: prone, supine or side-lying to facilitate access to the meridian pathways. Experience treatments that may incorporate different modalities, tailored specifically to your needs which Diana has studied and refined over the years.

Holistic diagnosis

Diana begins by collecting information about lifestyle and general health then she palpates specific areas of the abdomen and through attentive listening and observation, she gets a clearer view of the client’s overall health.

Dynamic Treatment

She guides you to connect with your breathing then, by applying rhythmic pressure along your meridians, she encourages the release of tension, tightness, pain or stress.

Deep Relaxation

Through mindful pressure that tonifies and balances the Ki, your body enters a state of deep relaxation and homeostasis, supporting its natural ability to heal.Throughout the treatment she remains attuned to you, regularly checking in to help you develop embodied awareness and interoception.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I pay for my treatment?

Payment is accepted by e-transfer, cash or paypal.
For e-transfer please send your payment to diana@awarenessandflow.com

What is your cancellation policy?

Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, or the full amount will be charged. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

What is the recommended clothing for my treatment?

When deciding what to wear for your treatment, comfort is your top priority. Opt for loose-fitting cotton pants and a shirt which allows easy movement. Alternatively you can choose to wear just your underwear and be draped with a sheet for comfort and privacy. Ultimately, choose whatever makes you feel most at ease.

How is Zen Shiatsu different from a regular massage?

Zen Shiatsu differs from traditional massage in its focus on bringing balance to the body’s energy (Ki) rather than muscle manipulation. Treatments may involve meridian stretching, joint rotation, breathing, applying focused but comfortable pressure with palms, thumbs, elbows, fists, fingertips. Working on hands, head, neck and feet. While a massage focuses primarily on the physical body, Zen Shiatsu addresses both physical, emotional and energetic aspects, helping to restore vitality and promote holistic well-being.

Is Zen Shiatsu therapy painful?

No, Zen Shiatsu therapy is not painful. The unique flexibility as a therapy is its ability to work in different ways with the human system. It can be bodywork, employing physical pressure and stretching on the body tissues, and it can be “energy medicine” working on the human meridian network. The pressure applied is gentle and tailored to your comfort level making it a soothing and restorative experience.

How many Treatments of Zen Shiatsu therapy are recommended?

The number of sessions depends on your personal needs and wellness goals. Many clients benefit from regular sessions, such as once a week or bi-weekly, especially when working through specific health concerns. Others may find monthly sessions effective for maintaining balance and reducing stress.
